Keeping your system compliant with AS 2293.1 and ready to perform
Emergency Lighting Maintenance & Upgrades
Emergency lighting is more than just a safety requirement—it’s a legal obligation for every commercial and public building in Australia. At GLS Electrical, we handle the maintenance, repairs, and upgrades of emergency lighting systems to ensure they meet the performance standards set out in AS/NZS 2293.1.
This part of the standard focuses on the design, installation, and performance of emergency lighting systems. It ensures your exit signs, emergency battens, and battery backup lighting are capable of operating effectively during a real power failure or evacuation.
If your building’s system is out of date, showing signs of wear, or no longer meets the standard, we can bring it up to scratch.
What Is AS 2293.1?
AS/NZS 2293.1 sets the rules for:
How emergency lighting systems are designed and installed
Where exit and emergency lights must be placed
Minimum light levels and visibility under emergency conditions
The battery backup duration required (usually 90 minutes)
How systems must perform during simulated power failure events
If your building has been altered, extended, or simply hasn’t had the emergency lighting updated in a while, there’s a good chance it’s no longer fully compliant.
